Much has been said about Magic’s fun, laidback, and close-knit work environment. Others add that it’s an exceptional platform for those who want to jump start their work-from-home career.
What better way to find out what the hype is all about than by getting to know an “insider” i.e. a legit “Cloudie”. Let’s get to meet Samantha Dueñas, a Cloudie-turned-Captain Cloudie-turned-Pod Lead. Read on and find out what Magic is all about and how it helped her young career flourish.
Samantha’s Magic journey from Cloudie to Pod Lead was not a breeze, to say the least. It was, however, worth it! And it’s safe to say that the company’s close-knit community that’s all about building each other up significantly contributed to her success.
“Being a Cloudie was quite a challenge at first since learning new software and tools can be daunting, on top of learning how to work and communicate with clients but my helpful coworkers and supervisors made it fun to learn the job. When I became a Captain Cloudie, I started to enjoy working a lot more, having to coach Cloudies while coordinating with Pod Leads, who always made shifts feel like regular (productive) hangouts with friends. Eventually, I decided to apply for Pod Lead since I felt that I was finally ready for the role and I wanted to put my skills to better use, while having more stability.”
When it comes to her proudest moment, Samantha had a hard time distinguishing one, and if ever there was one, she’s not shy to share such a feat with Magic peers.
“There is no specific moment I have in mind because there have been many times that I felt somewhat proud of how I executed some complicated tasks, or how I partially handle things that require group effort, since the group effort is what really defines success in Magic.”
Like almost half of the Philippine workforce[a], Samantha just can’t help but rave about the perks of remote work. At Magic, though, there’s a little extra: the bond that’s developed among peers, superiors, et al. Because of this aspect, work is not only fulfilling, but also fun, enjoyable, and basically everything in between.
“I won’t lie, what I love the most is that it’s a remote job. I’m so glad I don’t have to face the menacing traffic every day. But what I enjoy about my job the most, is the camaraderie that’s generated between me, my coworkers, supervisors, and the Cloudies. Being comfortable dealing with the actual work no matter how busy the shift is one thing that makes it quite fulfilling, but more importantly, I enjoy a job more when the people in it are enjoying theirs as well.
Apart from the virtual setup, Magic accommodates a variety of people, including working students, fresh grads, even seasoned workers. It’s a great first step towards the right direction.”
With regard to Samantha’s top three words that she’d use to describe Magic, they’d have to be intriguing, creative, and comradely.
“Intriguing – What everyone does at Magic is intriguing, be it assistants thinking of creative ways to fulfill their tasks, managers who brainstorm for efficient workflow, the executives keeping the company growing, etc.
Creative – The processes, execution of clients’ tasks, new strategies, etc. have been nothing but creative. Hence the position everyone’s familiar with, Creative Solutions Specialist.
Comradely – The people you meet in Magic are relatable and friendly. You’ll learn so much from them, and they got ways to keep you entertained.”
Samantha’s advice to someone who’s just started his or her career in Magic? Don’t be intimidated. Just don’t.
“Don’t be intimidated by anyone, because we’re all cool here. Work-wise, as long as you persevere, you’ll go long. There’s a lot to learn at first, but once you get used to it, you wouldn’t even feel like you’re working.”
In a nutshell
Samantha’s story pretty much affirms that Magic indeed puts a premium on the power of collaboration. That said, although we may not be geographically close, we share a united spirit of one common vision. Furthermore, it implies that if you have the right attitude, push the right buttons, and make the right moves, going places is easy here at Magic.
