For every 200 people who apply to work at Magic, one makes it through. Here’s how we get to that one.
Sourcing
Many candidates come referred by assistants already on our team. It’s a good sign when your best people vouch for someone. The rest apply directly. Either way, everyone enters the same pipeline and is held to the same standard.
Resume screening
We review every application against criteria we’ve refined over a decade of hiring. Our screening is proprietary, built on data from thousands of hires. We look at writing quality, relevant experience, work history patterns, and specialized skills. We also require candidates to have a dedicated workspace and the ability to commit to US business hours. Most applicants don’t make it past this stage.
Online assessment
Candidates who pass screening complete an online assessment. We test English fluency, reading comprehension, and the ability to follow instructions precisely. We also include scenario-based questions that require candidates to analyze situations, prioritize information, and make judgment calls. The test is designed to surface the qualities we know make for strong virtual assistants.
Video Interview
Qualified candidates sit down with our team for a live 1-on-1 video call. Every interview at this stage is conducted manually, not automated. We vet their background and experience, evaluate professionalism, and see how candidates handle incomplete information, the kind of ambiguity they’ll face working with you.
What happens next
Candidates who pass enter live training, a multi-day program that ends with a formal assessment. Once they pass, they join our bench and become eligible to be matched with you based on your specific needs. After matching, we continue with weekly 1-on-1 coaching to keep assistants sharp.
